Moxon rectangle

The Moxon is a compact two-element directional antenna with folded ends. It provides good front-to-back performance in less space than a conventional two-element Yagi.

The driven element and reflector are folded toward each other. Coupling between the tips affects impedance and improves the front-to-back ratio.

Dimensions and design

All five principal dimensions must be calculated together. A simple half-wave approximation does not produce an optimized Moxon.

Step 1

Calculate dimensions for the actual conductor diameter.

Build a rigid insulated frame.

Respect tip spacing accurately.

Step 4

Install a current balun.

Step 5

Check front-to-back performance after tuning.
