Information

The ARA — Auvergne–Rhône-Alpes network is an experimental amateur-radio network designed to encourage exchanges between operators, test new communication solutions and connect different radio technologies.

It is mainly based on SvxLink and interconnects repeaters, access points and amateur-radio stations over the Internet. It can also provide gateways to systems such as EchoLink and selected digital networks while retaining the simplicity and friendly nature of analogue radio.

ARA is not intended to replace traditional radio contacts. It complements them by helping geographically distant operators, or operators constrained by their radio environment, to stay in touch.

The network is open to experimentation, knowledge sharing and the exploration of technologies related to voice over IP, amateur-radio repeaters and digital systems. It is developed on a voluntary and collaborative basis, in keeping with the spirit of amateur radio.
