The person behind the station
About me
My name is Didier and my amateur-radio callsign is F1SYH. This website brings together my background, radio activities, technical experiments and the tools I develop around the station.
My interest in radio began in 1989 through listening. Before transmitting, I learned to recognise bands, operating modes and propagation conditions. I became a licensed radio amateur in 1992, after using the callsigns F-10784, FA1SYH and FC1SYH, before finally adopting F1SYH.
Over the years, my activity has expanded from HF to VHF/UHF contacts, digital modes such as FT8 and FT4, voice over IP, SDR receivers and weather-satellite reception. I enjoy making a contact as much as understanding the complete technical chain that makes it possible.
The station has also become a laboratory combining radio, electronics, Linux, Raspberry Pi computers, networks, automation and Web publishing. This website serves as its dashboard, technical logbook and sharing space.
My radio activity
An approach focused on experimentation and digital communications.
Amateur radio is a very complete field of experimentation for me. It brings together electronics, antennas, propagation, computing and human contact. I am particularly interested in HF bands, digital modes, data transmission, satellite reception and voice-over-IP gateways.

The shack as a laboratory
Radio and computing brought together in one system.
My installation is not limited to a transceiver. It includes Linux servers, Raspberry Pi computers, SDR receivers, audio interfaces, relays, scripts, APIs and dashboards. Every component must remain understandable, observable and, as far as possible, independent of the others.

Understand before automating
Useful automation must remain readable, verifiable and repairable. I always seek to understand every link before entrusting it to a script.
Bring radio and computing together
CAT, SDR, Linux, networks, MQTT and the Web do not replace radio: they make it easier to observe, operate and share.
Prioritise safety
An automated station must return to a safe state when a service, Raspberry Pi or network link fails.
Document and share
This website is also a public logbook: it preserves solutions, explains choices and makes experiments reproducible.
